The Highest Quality, Archival Photographic Prints

The Apollo Remastered prints, now available to purchase, are the very same quality prints exhibited at some of the world’s finest museums and galleries. They are widely regarded as the highest quality Apollo photographs ever produced and are as close as it has ever been possible to get to the moment they were taken. Read ‘What People Are Saying’.

Every Apollo Remastered C-type print is professionally printed to the highest standard, using a traditional technology in the darkroom that utilizes light-sensitive paper and silver-based chemistry. This is how the original NASA film would have been printed, but rather than using an enlarger bulb and film, the remastered digital information is exposed using a laser / LED light source. This allows for the benefits and power of digital processing, while maintaining the superior quality of traditional photographic prints.

The printing process captures nuanced detail no other print process can deliver, giving true continuous tones and an unparalleled depth of color, showing more shadow and highlight detail - perfect for presenting the huge dynamic range witnessed in space. All colors are contained within the emulsion layers and as such this is one of the most archival forms of printing photographs available.

The photographs are printed on Fujifilm Crystal Archive DP II paper - Fuji’s leading paper for gallery prints, delivering the ultimate quality on a silk surface. The silver halide color paper offers the widest color gamut and maximum density for deep blacks. These deep blacks are essential for presenting the void of space - an immense depth of black witnessed by the Apollo astronauts. The paper has the highest level of image stability and resists fading for at least 75 years (when appropriately displayed).

A Piece Of History On Your Wall

The color photographs captured during these historic missions actually reside, as a true color positive image, on the very same film that was in the camera. The scans of this original flight film have been digitally remastered in a lossless format and then converted to laser / LED light to expose onto the individual photographic prints now available to own and display in your home. As such, each color print is only two generations from the original film. By comparison, printed media ever since the 60s and 70s were produced from duplicate film, or copies of the ‘dupes’; likely via further internegative copies, making them multiple generations away from the original and without the benefit of digital processing. Some of the most iconic and reproduced photographs in history can now be displayed in unprecedented detail and clarity.

Print Editions

Every Apollo Remastered photograph is individually produced and then inspected, embossed and signed by Andy Saunders in a space below the image, along with an explanatory caption - this section is designed such that it can be matted out during framing, if preferred, to produce a cleaner look (note - mount and frame not included). Open Editions

The Open Edition prints (O/E) will continue to be made available in unlimited quantities. If the image is available as a Limited Edition or Special Edition then the Open Edition is strictly limited to a maximum size of 20 Inch (51cm) along its shortest dimension. Please note the actual image will be slightly smaller than this dimension due to the inclusion of a narrow border. More Details.

Limited Editions and Special Editions

The 30 Inch (76cm) Limited Edition prints are strictly limited to 50 in number and the 48 Inch (122cm) Special Edition prints are limited to only 10 in number. Once these have sold out, they will never be printed at this size again, on any print medium*. The sizes refer to the length along the shortest side - please note the actual image will be slightly smaller than this dimension due to the inclusion of a narrow border.

The embossed stamp on each photograph is numbered and the artwork is accompanied by a Certificate Of Authenticity which is also stamped, signed and numbered. A pair of numbered, holographic stickers is also provided - one to be placed on the COA and one on the reverse of the photograph (after mounting). A record will be maintained of these numbered prints.

In order to protect collectors' investments, the price of these prints may increase as the sale of editions progresses. More Details On Limited and Special Editions.

*Andy Saunders reserves the right to make additional editions available, but only images of at least 50% greater in size, or smaller than 20 Inch. Other editions in the range are limited to three Artist’s Proofs (A/P) and one Exhibition Print (E/P) directly from the wall of any extended public exhibition.

Unique Pieces and Commissions

Andy has provided large-scale and bespoke imagery for museums, galleries, corporate spaces and super-prime residences around the world and is happy to discuss individual commissions. New individual film frames may be commissioned for restoration on a one-off basis, or very large pieces from the existing editions, potentially on different print mediums and as a unique (1 of 1) piece (must be at least 50% difference in size, to protect the Limited Edition and Special Edition series). For licensing, Andy has provided images for films, including to NASA, as well as many books, news and magazine publications. Please contact us via the ‘Contact Us’ form or Info@ApolloRemastered.com.

Shipping

Shipping is free to most countries (if delivery is not possible to your country, a full refund will be processed). All prints are shipped from the UK in a strong cardboard postal tube for safe delivery. Please note all local import taxes and duties will be the responsibility of the customer. Apollo Remastered will not be responsible for costs or delays caused by individual countries' customs processes. Each print order is produced individually by professionals in a photo lab and personally inspected, stamped and signed by Andy Saunders. This may cause some delays during busy times - please allow up to several weeks for processing of orders.

Print Care

Each print is a large-format photographic print and should be handled with extreme care; ideally with cotton gloves to avoid transfer of oils. The prints are professionally and carefully rolled into the tube and protected with tissue - ideally, they should only be opened by a framing professional when ready for mounting / framing. The print should be removed by gently pulling the tissue only. It is recommended that the print is mounted, ideally to a smooth surface such as coated foam board (not cardboard - to avoid any ‘orange peel’ effect) before framing, and displayed out of direct sunlight.
